Firebird 2.1 bring some protocol enhancements, giving an average of 30% speed gain in high latency networks (ex: Internet, radio/satelite links, etc).
FB 3 brings even more optimizations to the protocol (sponsored by Brazilian's FDD attendees), making it even faster for such networks! But you still needs to take care about blob transfers, since they are still much slower, requiring up to 3 roundtrips per blob. For more details, look my post to FirebirdNews:

We are using FB 1.56, and have a customer using it over a VPN with less than stellar results (meaning very slow). We are considering FB 3--will this solve some of the slowness? Any other comments? Thank you, Ed Dressel |
