Re: AdWords Developer Tokens for Desktop Applications?

Hardcode your developertoken in your software, do not put it in any (human readable) configuration file. Do not ship debugging files etc. with your software.

Note that when someone does retrieve your developertoken, say by extensive debugging or monitoring, you have to change your developertoken. That will be a tough decision because doing so will invalidate the software of all your users.
One way to get around that is to set up a service yourself that sends out the developertoken, and have your software retrieve the developertoken every 30 minutes or so.

Thanks for the help Vishal. My question is regarding how Google expects my desktop product used by my customers to issue API requests while maintaining the secrecy of my developer token. Obviously this isn't possible as described, so does Google expect me to embed the token in the application and not maintain the secrecy of my developer token? Or are desktop applications just not supported for the AdWords API? Or...?

Hi Drew,

To access an AdWords account's data via the API, you need two things: a developer token (associated with a manager account) and valid OAuth credentials (associated with the target AdWords account or the manager account of the target AdWords account).

Access levels related to a developer token define the limits on your account (such as test vs production accounts and the number of operations that you can perform with your token). You are required to set your developer token in the SOAP header of your request, when trying to make an API call. OAuth credentials, however, can be used to control data access to a user on a particular account. The access token generated using the OAuth credentials should be set in the HTTP header of your request, when making an API call. This implementation is a part of all of our client libraries, which can be used to make API calls without having to go through the hassle of constructing the SOAP request manually (client libraries can be used to develop both Web and Desktop based applications).

Hope this helps. If you have additional questions, please feel free to revert.

Vishal, AdWords API Team

Re: How do Ad Customizers associate FeedItems with Ads?

I found it! Thanks. The data I was looking for shows after I added 'TargetingAdGroup' to the query selector:
$selector->fields = array('FeedItemId', 'AttributeValues', 'Status', 'TargetingAdGroupId');

I am sorry, this was false alarm! I used IBExpert and Flamerobin with the gds32.dll from the previous Firebird versions (not 3.0.x). After updateing gds32.dll all is working as expected.

Empty body is not the cause of the error message, because:
- in old times the empty body problem was reported as SQL syntax error and the server remained alive
- the problem happens with the procedures that already were created in Firebird 1.5 and that have large bodies.

[firebird-support] Re: Why this procedure crashes server

This is becoming serious, because datbase has several hundreds procedures and some of them have the same situation (date arguments and variables) and have the same problem. Problem manifsts only when free statement is issues. Problem disappers when the procedure is changes from the IBExpert procedure edit form. But still the following situation happens (on clean server - that is restarted):
- I execute mentioned statement in IBExpert editor, IBExpert immediatly gives error message:
"Unsuccessful execution caused by a system error that precludes
     successful execution of subsequent statements.
Error reading data from the connection.
     Connection will be closed immediately."
  The connection becomes cloased.
- I reopen connection and go to the procedure edit form and execute edit from this editor - the error message appears:
This operation is not defined for system tables.
    unsuccessful metadata update.
    unknown ISC error 336397267.
    deadlock.
    update conflicts with concurrent update.
    concurrent transaction number is 720.
Only when I restart server I can edit procedure and commit changes of procedure from the procedure edit form.

There seems to be some problems with transactions...

Back when dialect 1 was current, you could not have empty begin/end blocks.  This was fixed in FB v1.5.  I am not certain this explains the error you are seeing, I have no idea whether the fix back then applied to dialect 1 or not (and even if not valid, it should not cause a server abort, so this is definitely a bug if Firebird somewhere).

However, given that you are using a legacy dialect, it seems a bit much to expect statements that were invalid back when dialect 1 was current, to be valid now.  (I hope that sentence parses correctly.)

I am curious as to why you are using dialect 1 on an FB3 database.

Back when Interbase 6 was released the 1999 language reference said:
"Dialect 1 exists to ease the migration of legacy databases."

More currently, the FirebirdSQL website (
http://firebirdsql.org/manual/isql-dialects.html ) says:

"Currently it is possible to create databases in Dialect 1 and 3 only, however it is recommended that you use Dialect 3 exclusively, since Dialect 1 will eventually be deprecated. Dialect 2 cannot be used to create a database since it only serves to convert Dialect 1 to Dialect 3."  [the highlighting is mine]

If the system was still using IB6 or FB1.x I could understand it, but given the many other changes generally required to upgrade to FB2 and now FB3, staying with dialect 1 seems an odd choice.  This is not intended as criticism, I am just curious as to why anyone is still using dialect 1 on new databases, 17+ years after it was superceded.

create or alter procedure test_procedure(id integer, p_from_date date)
